"U.S. appeals court tosses injunction limiting indefinite detention

By Bernard Vaughan

NEW YORK | Wed Jul 17, 2013 2:30pm EDT

(Reuters) - A federal appeals court on Wednesday lifted a lower court order that would have prevented the U.S. military from indefinitely detaining people believed to have helped al Qaeda or the Taliban.

The 3-0 decision by a panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York was a setback for journalists, activists and others who had argued that the law put them in danger of indefinite detention.

It was a victory for the Obama administration, which said the practice is needed to fight terrorism.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York said the plaintiffs lacked standing to challenge the law."

"The European Union has issued orders forbidding its member states from cooperating, transferring funds, giving scholarships or research grants to bodies in Judea and Samaria, eastern Jerusalem , and even the Golan Heights, Haaretzwrote Tuesday.

The new instruction, promulgated by the European Commission, which is the operative arm of the EU, sets parameters for cooperation between the EU and its members states, on the one hand, and Israeli governmental and private elements on the other. The instructions are for the years 2014 – 2020 and will go into force on Friday, July 18.

The decision also states that any future agreement signed with Israel must include a section that says the “settlements” are not part of sovereign Israel and therefore not included in the agreement.

A senior source in the Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that the new EU decision is dramatic, and can be called “a true earthquake.”"

Scientists Discover Quadruple Helix: Four Strand DNA In Human Cells

We now know that G-quandruplexes form in the DNA of human cells. If anybody had mentioned this earlier, they would probably be labelled as crazy.

The human race knows very little of itself, almost like a race with amnesia. As we continue to move forward through time, new discoveries are made that make old theories obsolete and false. It’s a good lesson that shows us how we can attach ourselves to “truths” and believe them whole-heartedly, often forgetting that truth is constantly changing and new paradigms of perception always lurk around the corner.

"Chinese authorities have given the banking industry greater freedom by allowing banks to set their own lending rates.

Previously they were not allowed to lend at rates below a certain level set by the People's Bank of China (PBOC).
The People's Bank said it hoped the move would lead to lower costs for companies.
It is being seen as a significant part of the government's plan to make the economy more market-orientated.
"When Chinese President Xi Jinping came to power in March, he promised to reform the country's economy to encourage more balanced growth," said BBC Beijing Correspondent Celia Hatton.
"The announcement on bank interest rates is the first major change since that time," she added.
Analysts agree that it marks an important development in policy."
